Alan Oshima - Senior Advisor and Board Member
From April 2005 through June 2008, Mr. Oshima served as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of the Company. In that role, he was also responsible for oversight of many of the administrative services of the Company. On May 6, 2008, Mr. Oshima was elected to the Board of Directors. On July 1, 2008, he assumed a new role as Senior Advisor to the Company in addition to being a Director.
He was founding partner of the law firm, Oshima Chun Fong & Chung, LLP. He has extensive regulatory and legal experience and prior to joining Hawaiian Telcom had been serving as lead counsel in The Carlyle Group’s acquisition of Verizon Hawaii.
In April 2005, Mr. Oshima received the Hawaii State Bar Association’s Pro Bono Service Award for his countless hours of volunteer legal work in the community. He has also been recognized as one of “America’s Best Lawyers” in the field of public utilities. In addition to his work in telecommunications, Mr. Oshima has served as the regulatory attorney for various Hawaii utility companies and other Hawaii businesses.
The Farrington High School graduate received a marketing degree from Northwestern University and a law degree from University of California, Hastings College of Law. He also served as a Supply Corps Officer with the U.S. Navy in among other places, Pearl Harbor and San Diego.
Among his community activities, he was the chairman of and continues to serve as a Board member of the YMCA of Honolulu, and as Vice President of Hawaii 3Rs, a non-profit organization that facilitates government, business, community, and school partnerships to repair, remodel and restore Hawaii’s public schools.
